What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness, a timeless concept, has undergone a contemporary reimagining to tackle the complexities of our modern era. At its core, mindfulness entails embracing the present moment and shedding the inclination to pass judgment. By cultivating a mindfulness practice, individuals can pause amidst the relentless barrage of stimuli and make conscious choices about how to respond, rather than reacting impulsively based on ingrained patterns of behavior. In this way, mindfulness serves as a powerful antidote to the challenges of our modern world, such as information overload and perpetual distraction.

The Benefits

The advantages of mindfulness are abundantly evident and supported by research. Mindfulness initiatives equip leaders and employees with the tools to reflect deeply, maintain laser-like focus on their responsibilities, effectively manage stress, and swiftly rejuvenate. At the organisational level, mindfulness practices lead to fewer sick days, heightened trust in leadership, and increased employee engagement.

Furthermore, workplace mindfulness offers a myriad of additional benefits, including;

  • improved mental well-being among staff

  • enhanced work-life balance

  • cultivation of healthier organisational cultures

  • heightened levels of creativity and innovation

  • strengthened personal accountability and leadership skills

  • diminished stress and anxiety

  • and a reduction in absenteeism

The Calm Down

The Calm Down was founded by Emily Cavagnino amidst the beginning phases of the 2020 pandemic. It was a whirlwind of involuntary adaptation; workplaces requiring their employees and their entire systems to move out of office and into isolation.

This drastic transition was destabilising for most. Emily created the Calm Down as an online initiative to help individuals and corporations alike, deal with the stress and overwhelm that comes from life transitions and work-life imbalances.

The Calm Down has uniquely and organically grown overtime to be able to cater to the continued needs of the industry. Our team is devoted to and passionate about continued learning and listening. Showing up with a warmth and presence, and the required skills to guide people toward a calmer state of being.

Rajat, India

"A great teacher inspires. Emily has been instrumental in sparking that interest in me to be more mindful and to patiently answer all my questions. Emily has encouraged me to practise this on my own in spare time which is again a sign of a great teacher. So thank you Emily."

Zach, USA

"I frankly struggle with motivation and presence in my work, so a built-in mindfulness practice is a really helpful tool to ground myself in the moment and align my priorities. It's a lot easier to find motivation and clarity in a quieted mind."

Elaine, AUS

"Feedback so far on over a year attending the sessions is that it really has become an integral part of my routine and I continue to value the sessions greatly! It helps me feel more optimistic about the work that I'm doing."
